Wild Women Mission – Litter Pick

It’s always going to be a bit tricky to make rubbish sound appealing or glamorous-looking and ‘insta-worthy’ but last Friday saw first ‘Wild Women Mission – Litter Pick’ take place and it was amazingly a super morning for all who attended! Five gorgeous souls (as well as two beautiful kiddies) responded to my call for volunteers and showed up for a litter-pick in Donard Forest at the base of Slieve Donard in the Mourne Mountains. Each of them gave of their time and energy so enthusiastically I was truly blown-away! The joy among these women was simply infectious and we had the best morning clearing up a small patch of this beautiful wild landscape which we learned through chit-chat has been so precious in all of our lives. So, we were glad to be able to gather to make the space a bit nicer for nature and for others to enjoy. Together, we collected about 10 full bags of rubbish in about an hour and a half, had some really good craic along the way and left feeling like we had made a contribution to caring for the natural space we love so much. Big thanks to all the wonderful ladies who showed up eager to get stuck in and for making it so enjoyable – who knew it was possible to bond over rubbish? Litter-picking for the win!

Special thanks to Belfast City Council for providing litter pickers, bags and gloves and to Newry and Mourne District Council for assisting in organising the waste disposal – you were both a great support!
